Autobiography
Ms. Trisa Richardson

Education has always been important to me as a child and is something I work towards instilling in my own family today.

Growing up in Chicago, both my mother and father encouraged me to stay in school so that I could have a solid future. It was my mother who always worked to make sure I had a good education and never failed in school. One of the best things my mother did for me was enrolling me in a private school, Providence St.-Mel. It was there that I began to really understand the importance of how education can have a positive impact on your life. I was nurtured and challenged in this environment. It was there that I learned to appreciate and value the Providence St.-Mel (P.S.M) motto. The PSM motto centers on helping students to understand that anything is possible when they work, plan, build, and dream in that order. I am always so grateful for what I learned and achieved in my formative years.

I earned my undergraduate degree from University of Alabama-Birmingham in elementary education and later earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University. I have taught in a variety of different school systems with teaching experience in grades first through fifth. Because of the foundation that was laid out to me as a child, I am able to set high expectations for my own students. My ultimate goal for my students is that they aspire to be life-long learners, always looking for opportunities to grow and become the best possible individual they can be. As an educator, my core belief system is centered on the philosophy that all students can achieve and be successful in school. My goal is for each and every one of my students to be active learners, creative thinkers, and engaged in the classroom. I believe that with hard work and dedication your aspirations and goals will be fulfilled.

I am honored to be selected as this year’s teacher of the year for Bob Mathis Elementary. Working at Bob Mathis Elementary has helped me to grow as an individual. I believe having a strong mental state and positive attitude can directly impact your performance and drive in this field and I am happy to be a part of the positive change here at this school. Although there may be road blocks that may occur along the way, my belief is that when we work together, we can accomplish anything.

In my spare time, I enjoy exercising, shopping, going to the movies, and spending time with my wonderful husband and amazing three children.
